Advice

Throwing a themed party, but don’t want to be overwhelmed by that very theme?  Don’t worry, we’re here to help!  This gorgeous baby shower, shot by Heather Rowland Photography and inspired by one of our favorite childhood books, is the perfect example of a themed party that isn’t over the top.  Keep reading to see our tips and tricks for how you can do the same!

Decor

Decorations can be one of the biggest ways to get your theme across.  This gathering took place in the home of Lauren Essl, the genius behind Blue Eye Brown Eye, who also provided the invites and calligraphy for this beautiful celebration.  Lauren has a stunning home, so besides some marbled balloons, a copy of Where the Wild Things Are and lush floral arrangements, there was no extra decor needed.  Oh Deery Floral provided white arrangments that go with anything and add to the elegance of the event.

PRO TIP:  Decide on your decor last.  Plan out your menu and your activities, and see if those areas are where your theme will shine.  However, be careful not to wait too long to order any decorations you may need.

If your theme is based on a book, we love the idea of having a copy of that book for people to sign.  It doesn’t matter if it’s a birthday, baby shower, or engagement party, a guest book is a perfect keepsake for any occasion!

Food

For this celebration, the desserts were crowned as the primary way to show off the theme.  Adorable crown cookies paired with a stunning crown-topped cake made it clear what book this party was inspired by.

PRO TIP:  Food is one of the most fun ways to show off your theme.  Cookies are a good option and depending on what the theme is, can be made and decorated yourself!  You should also consider ordering a specialty cake.  Many talented bakeries love to create something unique that goes along with a theme – plus a killer cake is always a crowd favorite.

Activities

If you decide to keep food and decor neutral, your activities can be the perfect way to show off your theme.  The mama-to-be had all her guests wear golden paper crowns and channel their inner Queen of the Wild Things. 👸🏻 Partygoers also decorated ABC blocks for the little babe, which was one of our favorite personal touches from the celebration.

PRO TIP:  Apparel or accessories (hats, necklaces, pins/badges) are an easy way to get guests infused into your theme.

While we love the subtle nods to the classic book, Where the Wild Things Are, there are other party themes that sometimes you just need to go all out on.  Stay tuned for one all-out-theme event coming up soon on the blog 👀😉  Now that you have a roadmap to create a fun and copy-worthy event, share pictures with us on Instagram (@togathr) or submit your event for a feature at hello@togathr.com

4.  Parisian Margarita

St Germain Margarita 1

This refreshing and silky smooth cocktail combines two of our favorite spirits – Tequila and St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur!  We love the distinctly floral twist that the liqueur delivers to this classic drink.

5.  Summertime Rosé Tequila Sangria

Summertime Rose Tequila Sangria 1

Once upon a time, Tequila met Rosé and they lived happily ever after together in this summer-inspired Sangria.  This fruit forward drink is very simple to make and the recipe serves quite a few, so it’s perfect for your next summertime gathering!

Ingredients (Yields 8-10)

  • 1 bottle Rosé
  • 1 cup silver tequila
  • 1 cup fresh lime juice
  • ⅓ – ⅔ cup agave nectar depending on your taste
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries hulled + halved
  • 1 cup sliced peaches

  • 2 – 3 limes sliced
  • Original flavored kombucha or sparkling water for topping
  • Basil for garnish

  2. To serve, give the sangria a good stir, fill each glass with ice, and pour the sangria over the ice.  Top with sparkling water or kombucha.  Garnish with basil and edible flowers.  Drink up!

6.  Dragon Fruit Margarita

Dragonfruit Margarita 2

We love the bold look and subtle fruity/floral flavors in this fun margarita!  Don’t let the dragon fruit intimidate you – the pulp of this vibrant fruit is similar to kiwi and will add great texture to the drink!

Dragonfruit Margarita 1(Photo Credit: Leah Bergman for Style Me Pretty Living // Recipe Credit: Freutcake)

Ingredients (Yields 1)

  • 2 oz. silver tequila
  • ¼ dragon fruit, skin removed and cubed
  • ½ oz. lime juice
  • ½ – 1 oz. agave nectar (more or less to sweeten)
  • 2 drops rose water
  • Sea salt for the rim (optional)

Instructions

  1. Rim a margarita glass or tumbler with lime juice and sea salt (optional).
  2. In a cocktail shaker, add dragon fruit cubes, lime juice, and agave nectar.  Muddle into a pulp.
  3. Fill shaker with ice and add in tequila and rose water.  Shake vigorously until ice is broken down and margarita is well chilled (alternatively, you can blend the entire drink if you prefer a blended margarita).
  4. Pour contents into prepared glass and garnish with a slice of dragon fruit.  Enjoy.

*Note: Sadly that pretty pink dragon fruit skin is not edible so make sure to remove it before eating.

7.  Strawberry Mexican Mule

Strawberry Mexican Mule 2

This colorful cocktail is a delicious adaptation of the classic Moscow Mule.  The fresh strawberry puree offers a fruity sweetness to balance out the lime and the fizzy ginger zing from the ginger beer.  This recipe makes enough puree for about 8 cocktails. Plus,  it’s super easy to prep the other ingredients in advance (minus the ginger beer) for effortless entertaining – just divide up the mixture evenly into your copper mules and top off each one with ginger beer when you’re ready to enjoy!

Strawberry Mexican Mule 1(Recipe and Photo Source: Domesticate Me)

Ingredients (Yields 1, with enough puree to make 7 more!)

  • 2 oz. silver tequila
  • 1 ½ oz. fresh lime juice
  • 1 oz. strawberry puree*
  • 4 oz. ginger beer
  • Splash of club soda (optional)

*For the Strawberry Puree:

  • 2 cups quartered strawberries
  • 2 teaspoons fresh lime juice
  • 2 teaspoons honey (or agave)

Instructions

  1. Start by making your strawberry puree.  Place all the ingredients in a blender or food processor, and puree until smooth.  Strain through a fine mesh sieve and refrigerate until ready to use (you’ll have a little more than a cup of puree, which is enough for roughly 8 cocktails).
  2. Add the tequila, lime juice, and strawberry puree to a copper mug or tall glass.  Mix with a swizzle stick (or spoon) until well combined.  Fill the mug/glass with ice.  Add the ginger beer and a splash of club soda (if using), and stir to combine.  Bottoms up!

8.  Spicy Pomegranate Margarita

Spicy Pomegranate Margaritas 1

Who doesn’t love a spicy margarita in the summer, am I right?  These vibrant beauts are not only stunning but they pack a delicious pomegranate punch that gives a nod to some of our favorite holiday flavors, making them perfect for entertaining all year round!

Spicy Pomegranate Margaritas 2(Recipe and Photo Source: Freutcake)

Ingredients (Yields 2)

  • 2 slices jalapeno plus more for garnish
  • 4 oz. silver tequila
  • 8 oz. pomegranate juice, sweetened
  • Juice of two limes
  • Kosher salt for rim
  • Crushed ice

Instructions

  1. In a cocktail shaker combine jalapeno slices and a small amount of ice.  Muddle with a wooden spoon to break up the jalapeno.  Add in tequila, pomegranate juice and the juice from two limes.  Shake until well combined.
  2. Rim two glasses with salt and fill with ice.  Strain margaritas into ice filled glasses and garnish with another slice of jalapeno.  Sip and enjoy!

9.  Lemon Thyme Tequila Spritzer

Lemon Thyme Tequila Spritzer(Recipe and Photo Source: Tasty Kitchen)

We love the pairing of citrus and thyme in this crisp, effervescent cocktail.  Because the ingredients in this drink are so beautifully clean and simple, you can customize it with any herbs that you have on hand!  Out of thyme and no time to run to the store?  Use rosemary or mint instead – you won’t be disappointed.

Ingredients (Yields 4)

For the simple syrup:

  • 1 whole lemon, zest only
  • 3 sprigs fresh thyme
  • 1 ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 ½ cup water

For the cocktail:

  • 4 whole lemons, juiced
  • ½ cups silver tequila
  • 3 cups club soda or seltzer water
  • 4 sprigs fresh thyme, for garnish
  • 4 slices of lemon, for garnish

Instructions

For the lemon-thyme simple syrup:

In a medium saucepan, add lemon zest, thyme sprigs, sugar, and water.  Bring to a low boil and reduce heat to simmer for 5 minutes.  Remove from heat and let the syrup cool for 10 minutes.

For the cocktail:

Strain the syrup into a 1-liter pitcher and add the fresh lemon juice and tequila.  Add a handful of ice cubes and fill the rest of the bottle with seltzer water.  Stir well to combine.  Add ice cubes, 1 sprig of thyme, and a slice of lemon to a tall glass and top with cocktail.  Sip and enjoy!

Summer is officially here! Today is the 2018 summer solstice and, to celebrate, we’re sharing a tutorial on how to make chic sun hats! Whether you’re heading to a pool party, going to a music festival, or jetting off to the beach for a weekend with your girls, these custom hats will keep you feeling (and looking) cool in the summer sun! 😎☀

SUPPLIES:

  • basic sun hat
  • pencil or marker
  • glue gun & glue sticks
  • scissors
  • string or ribbon of your choice

PRO TIPS:

Pick a fun phrase for each hat or make a matching set for your whole squad – these are perfect for bridal showers and bachelorette get aways!

Practice writing out your phrase on paper before tracing it out on your hat & use a thicker, round piece of twine or yarn for easier application.

STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS:

    1. Pick a fun phrase & carefully write it out in pencil on the brim of your sun hat
    2. Once your glue gun is warmed up, begin tracing your writing with it, applying the glue to small sections only (this prevents the glue from hardening before you attach the string)
    3. Immediately apply your string to the section you just traced with glue and press lightly to secure – be careful not to touch the hot glue directly!
    4. Repeat steps 2 & 3 until you have traced out your whole phrase
    5. Clean off any stray bits or strands of glue
    6. Repeat steps 1-5 until you have enough hats for your squad for instant fun in the sun

☀ The possibilities are limitless with these fun, customizable sun hats! Want more DIY video tutorials? Tell us what you want to see next in the comments below or send us a message at hello@togathr.com! ☀

What can we say, our brides love Galia Lahav!

It’s a new year, which means a fresh start to your wedding planning and in that same vein, we’ve got something new to share, the Wedding Planning Challenge.  Intrigued?  You should be.  This is a time of change, of improvement and of trying new things. Our goal is always to inspire you and make your wedding planning easier, more fun and of course, joyful.  While there are so many tips, ideas and information we can share with you on how to plan your wedding joyfully, we want you to take action and to see results in your wedding planning and in your life.  When wedding planning is happy, your life will be too.  And who doesn’t want a happy life?

So, without further ado, I’d like to introduce you to the Wedding Planning Challenge!  We understand the many issues you struggle with when it comes to wedding planning and the range of emotions you feel because of it.  We want you to be happy planning your wedding at every step of the way and this wedding planning challenge is a chance for us to focus on one of those issues every month and solve it.  We’ll discuss the problem you are facing and the steps to find your way out of it.  Then we’ll pass the challenge on to you to work on and put your solution into action.  While the challenge is only for the month, the solution you learn will help you as you continue to plan your wedding.  Every time you find yourself in a similar situation, you’ll know how to get out of it and how to potentially even prevent it in the future which will not only make wedding planning happier but your life as well.  So, let’s jump right into January’s Wedding Planning Challenge.

January Wedding Planning ChallengeDestination Wedding Planner_Mango Muse Events_January Wedding Planning Challenge

Hands down, the problem I hear the most from couples who are planning their wedding is that they feel overwhelmed.  It’s not surprising when you think about jumping head first into a world that until before you were engaged, you were never really a part of.  You knew it existed and maybe even danced along the edges of it when you were a member of a friend or family’s wedding party, but you were never immersed in this world of weddings.  There is a lot out there and it’s easy to feel overwhelmed.

So, let’s talk about overwhelm.  What is overwhelm?  Essentially, it is too much.  It’s an excessive amount that creates an overpowering feeling.  It’s too much of anything or of everything.  You feel weighed down, crushed even by the sheer quantity of stuff (whatever that stuff may be).  What is considered overwhelming can be different for different people and can come at different times in the planning process.  It can take the form of ideas on wedding blogs and Pinterest or it can take the form of vendors or take the form of planning advice.

Here is our solution to overwhelm: Narrow the field.  Stop looking everywhere at everything and instead, focus.  Reduce the mass quantities of stuff.  Be selective and make it manageable.

Step 1:  First think about what overwhelms you.  What about wedding planning right now overwhelms you?  Be specific and honest.  Is it your mother?  Is it your budget?  Is it not knowing who to hire?  Is it not knowing how to come up with ideas?  Is it not knowing how to cut your guest list?  Is it not knowing where to buy your shoes?  Is it not having enough time?  Write down each item that is making you feel overwhelmed.

Step 2:  Now look at the first item on your list and write down why that item makes you feel overwhelmed.  Then ask yourself again, why?  Do this a few times to each answer you write down.  For example, if it’s your mother, maybe you feel overwhelmed because she’s constantly emailing you with ideas she has.  And the reason this makes you feel overwhelmed is because she sends you all different kinds of stuff all the time.  And the reason this makes you feel overwhelmed is because it reminds you of all the things you need to do.

Step 3:  Now that you know why you are overwhelmed, think about what would make that feeling go away.  What would lift that heavy feeling off your shoulders?  The goal here is to brainstorm a few solutions that could eliminate the problem completely or, at least, reduce it to something that is more manageable.  If we take the mother example again, a solution could be to have all your mother’s emails filter to a folder for you to look at when you are ready.  Or a solution is to talk to her about the emails and set up a system where you prompt her when you need help on an item.

Step 4: Repeat steps 2 and 3 with each item on your list.

Step 5: Now pick a solution for each item from your brainstorm by picking the one that feels the best.  Pick the one that feels good to you, the one that gives you a sense of relief and then put it into action.  The best way to get out from under the weight of overwhelm is to do something about it.  You’ll feel better just by working towards a solution.  And if your first solution doesn’t quite work, try your second or your third until the overwhelm from that item is gone.  If none of your solutions are working, revisit your why and dig a little bit deeper.  Your why needs to align with your solution, so if your why is off, then your solution won’t solve it.

Step 6: Share your successes in a comment below or on social media using #weddingplanningchallenge!  We want to hear what you’ve done to get rid of your overwhelm and what you gained out of kicking overwhelm to the curb.  And if you are still struggling, let us know what problem you are facing and we’ll do all we can to help.

I know, overwhelm is no joke.  I didn’t go easy on you with our first challenge, but that’s because I know things can change for the better and your wedding planning can be happier.  Feeling overwhelmed is a big problem, but when you solve it you’ll get a big smile on your face.  So, I challenge you to make your wedding planning more joyful and apply this solution every time you feel overwhelmed.  Work at it and it will make a difference.  And don’t forget to share your success story, I can’t wait to hear all about your wins (because you will)!
